Imaging all Visible Surfaces

چکیده

Today many systems exist to generate geometric m dels of existing scenes and objects. However, very few systems store accurate data about surface appearance such as colors and textures. One way to capture surface texture data is to record a series of images that, collectively, captures all visible surfaces of the object. Finding good viewpoints for this task is not easy. This paper presents a new heuristic method to find a good set of viewpoints for a given geometric model. Taking images from the computed viewpoints will show every visible part of every surface at least once. The approach uses a hierarchical visibility algorithm to preprocess the scene. A good set of viewing regions is identified with simulated annealing and then good viewpoints are derived. Results and visualizations of the computed solutions are presented.

Three-dimensional all-dielectric metamaterial solid immersion lens for subwavelength imaging at visible frequencies

Although all-dielectric metamaterials offer a low-loss alternative to current metal-based metamaterials to manipulate light at the nanoscale and may have important applications, very few have been reported to date owing to the current nanofabrication technologies. We develop a new "nano-solid-fluid assembly" method using 15-nm TiO2 nanoparticles as building blocks to fabricate the first three-d...

Parallel unfolding and visualization of curved surfaces extracted from large three-dimensional volumes

Although many three-dimensional (3D) medical imaging visualization methods exist, 3D volume slicing remains the most commonly used technique for visualizing medical data from modalities such as CT, MRI, and PET. We propose to extend the possibilities of oblique slicing to developable curved surfaces that can be flattened and displayed in two dimensions without deformation. Such surfaces can be ...

Detection of Lettuce Discoloration Using Hyperspectral Reflectance Imaging

Rapid visible/near-infrared (VNIR) hyperspectral imaging methods, employing both a single waveband algorithm and multi-spectral algorithms, were developed in order to discrimination between sound and discolored lettuce. Reflectance spectra for sound and discolored lettuce surfaces were extracted from hyperspectral reflectance images obtained in the 400-1000 nm wavelength range. The optimal wave...

Marching Through the Visible Man

The National Library of Medicine is creating a digital atlas of the human body. This project, called the Visible Human, has already produced computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging and physical cross-sections of a human male cadaver. This paper describes a methodology and results for extracting surfaces from the Visible Male’s CT data. We use surface connectivity and isosurface extracti...
